October 29, 2019 – 8th Wall has today announced that it is debuting an all-in-one platform that allows users to create, collaborate and publish augmented reality projects to the web. No third party software, server setup or outside tools are required. Users are able to simply log in, code and click publish.
8th Wall states that it’s Cloud Editor is a single place to create WebAR projects anywhere, at any time and on any device. It includes a fully-featured text editor, an asset viewer, developer keybindings and supports popular frameworks such as A-Frame, Babylon.js, Three.js, React and Vue.js.
The company has also loaded it’s sample projects from GitHub (which have been a popular way for people to learn how to start a WebAR project) directly into the editor to make it easier for users to select and edit them to start building their own projects.
The platform offers the ability to debug code in real time, allowing users to view instant previews of recent changes, simplifying the testing and troubleshooting of WebAR projects. The Cloud Editor also supports team members of unlimited size working together on the same project at the same time, allowing for greater collaboration on projects.
8th Wall’s distributed source control (for tracking and managing changes to code) lets developers review incoming changes, resolve conflicts and view diffs (differences and changes in coding files) before landing. Users can compare commits (effectively “save changes” commands) over time with a full diff view and current client status.
The company states that one of the biggest benefits of its platform is that there is no need for users to worry about setting up servers to test and launch projects. 8th Wall’s platform comes with Built-In hosting with different environments including a password-protected staging. Custom domains can also easily be attached to live projects from the settings menu, according to the company.
8th Wall’s Cloud Editor and Built-in Hosting are available today for Agency and Business plan users.
