Future Sight AR awarded two SBIR Phase II contracts worth $1.5M by AFWERX

August 3, 2022 – XR Solutions, dBA Future Sight AR, a mixed reality (MR) software development company that increases the capabilities of frontline workers, has recently announced that it has been awarded two Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contracts worth USD $1.5 million by AFWERX. The contracts will focus on MR assisted workflows, training and mission planning to investigate how to fill capability gaps in the Department of the Air Force (DAF).

Future Sight AR stated that starting July 30, the company will start its journey to create and provide innovative capabilities that will help to strengthen the national defense of the US. Although it did not go into specifics as to what the nature of its MR offering to the DAF will be, Future Sight AR does provide some extended reality (XR) solutions in the form of its Katana XR, Katana Pro and Atlas VR platforms.

The company’s Katana XR app takes manuals, installation guides, quality checks and work packages, and makes them available digitally. Katana Pro allows users to create content, templates and assign work packages to users on mobile or headset. Finally, Atlas VR offers a fully interactive review application that allows clients to walk through and evaluate 3D models in virtual reality (VR). With the SBIR Phase II contracts focusing on MR assisted workflows and training, it is likely that some combination of the company’s existing platforms will be part of its offering to the US Air Force.

The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through a faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and losing bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution.
