Hyatt Regency Vancouver launches AR experience to celebrate Lunar New Year

In Augmented Reality News

February 14, 2024 – Hyatt Regency Vancouver has recently announced that it has created an augmented reality (AR) experience in its lobby with the launch of ‘Wake Up Sleeping Dragon.’ The experience will introduce an AR 3D Dragon in the hotel’s entrance area to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

By simply scanning a QR code, guests and visitors can unlock the AR 3D Dragon experience, which depicts a flying dragon within the hotel’s lobby space. Guests will also be able to share the experience on social media channels.

The interactive AR experience was created by Hyatt Regency Vancouver’s own Marketing Manager, Deniz Um. To build the experience, Um used Adobe Aero, Adobe’s augmented reality authoring and publishing tool. Aero provides developers with an intuitive way to build, view, and share immersive storytelling experiences in mobile AR and is available on iOS and as a public beta for desktop on macOS and Windows.

According to Hyatt Regency Vancouver, the introduction of the augmented reality experience aligns with the hotel’s commitment to creating memorable experiences for its guests while also fostering community engagement.

Patrick Gosselin, General Manager, states “Lunar New Year is a time for our hotel to showcase inclusivity, celebrating the rich diversity of British Columbia while spreading joy within our local community.”

In addition to the AR experience, Hyatt Regency has decorated its entire lobby with festive decorations as part of its Lunar New Year celebration, in honor of the Year of the Dragon. As such, a (physical) giant dragon has also been placed in the middle of the lobby. The hotel stated that its AR experience will be running until February 24th.
