In Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality News
January 9, 2025 – OPTIX, a Beijing-based optical technology company, has this week unveiled its latest augmented reality (AR) waveguide module at CES 2025, as well as a new foveated rendering feature for its previously launched 8K Pancake optical module for virtual reality (VR) devices.
EPIC 50 – 2D Expansion Waveguide with Large Field of View
OPTIX stated that with the rising popularity of AI-powered smart glasses, the company is anticipating that AR glasses with integrated displays are poised to become one of the most significant consumer electronics trends of 2025.
To meet demand for such devices, OPTIX has unveiled ‘EPIC 50’, its new AR 2D geometric waveguide module that achieves a 50-degree wide field of view (FoV) while delivering full-color, high-efficiency display performance, according to the company. OPTIX added that its newest module is able to provide future AR glasses with a broader visual field and “exceptional image clarity.”
8K VR Pancake Module – “Wider and Sharper than Vision Pro”
In addition to the EPIC 50, OPTIX also revealed an all-new foveated rendering feature for its 8K VR Pancake Module. Featuring a 115-degree ultra-wide FoV and 8K resolution binocular display, the company’s 8K VR Pancake Module comes with built-in diopter adjustment ranging from 0 to 8D, which offers optical performance and display quality that apparently rivals that of Apple’s Vision Pro headset, according to the company, and contributes to what OPTIX believes is a “new standard” for next-generation VR devices.
Foveated Rendering for Optimized GPU Use
By integrating proprietary eye-tracking technology, OPTIX stated that its new foveated rendering solution allows OEMs to save GPU and maintain full 8K resolution in VR devices, whilst enhancing VR device adaptability and interactive functionality.
“We are thrilled to showcase OPTIX’s leading AR and VR optical technologies and products on a globally renowned stage here at CES,” said Gary Yan, Founder and CEO of OPTIX, “Our mission is to continually innovate and provide advanced optical solutions that truly meet the needs of end consumers.”
As well as unveiling its new EPIC 50 XR and foveated rendering technology at CES 2025, OPTIX also showcased a range of lens products at the event in Las Vegas this week to demonstrate its technological capabilities and strategic direction. These include the company’s Integrated Myopia Waveguide, Vari-focal Lenses, All-in-One Pancake Lens, and 2D Geometric Waveguides.
