May 22, 2019 – Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has announced that the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 Platform is powering Google’s new Glass Enterprise Edition 2. Glass delivers an enterprise-ready device, designed to help improve the safety and efficiency of workers – from logistics and manufacturing, to field service and training – by providing hands-free access to the information and tools they need to complete their work.
Built on the heterogenous compute architecture of Snapdragon XR1, Glass features a multicore Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and Qualcomm AI Engine. According to Qualcomm, these technologies deliver power savings for improved battery life and thermal efficiency for enhanced performance and support for computer vision, low power video capture and advanced machine learning capabilities.
“Qualcomm Technologies built Snapdragon XR1 to deliver high-quality experiences, and we are delighted to see Google optimize the platform and offer a strong solution to help increase productivity for enterprise workers,” said Hugo Swart, head of XR, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Glass’ small, lightweight form-factor, and low power enabled by XR1 allows workers to wear it for extended periods of time. We support Glass in the mission to improve speed, accuracy and safety of hands-on workers and transform how we connect and work.”
Glass Enterprise Edition 2 has been in field trials with select enterprise customers for first person video streaming and collaboration use cases. The offering is now available to all enterprise businesses, more information can be found at https://www.google.com/glass.
