October 21, 2019 – Nreal has unveiled a product design collaboration with “au”, a brand marketed by KDDI for their mobile cellular and home internet services. The company announced the introduction of a 5G-powered augmented reality (AR) museum in partnership with KDDI and Toppan Printing last week at CEATEC 2019 (Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies) in Chiba, Japan.
Aiming to showcase a future that that leverages emerging tech, CEATEC 2019 focused on bringing together innovative technologies including 5G and IoT that aim to positively impact society as a whole. Attendees of CEATEC this year were able to experience an AR museum experience that was streamed through KDDI’s 5G developer environment. The application offered an immersive digital experience that put users in close proximity with one of Japan’s national treasures, the 18th century Writing Box with Eight Bridges.
Katsuhiro Kozuki, Deputy GM, Mobile & XR, Personal Business Sector at KDDI Corporation, commented: “MR [mixed reality] will open the doors to showcase the full potential of wearable technology and we couldn’t be more excited to unveil in Japan the commercial use of Nreal Light and introduce MR technology to consumers in the Japanese market.”

Aiming to develop apps for the 5G era, KDDI has formed a strategic partnership with Nreal that will see the company invest in the development of spatial computing and the promotion of smart glasses in Japan. Through the collaboration, KDDI will support the development of consumer applications based on NrealLight and will tailor the design of NrealLight for Japanese customers.
