November 21, 2019 – Nreal has today announced that developer kits for its Nreal Light mixed reality smart glasses are available today for pre-order. Earlier this year, the company announced the launch and availability of the Nreal Light glasses to consumers, but also unveiled that developers would be able to apply for an opportunity to purchase dev kits, which the company originally stated in May would begin shipping in September 2019.
The company is offering two options, one is simply the ‘Nreal Light Developer Kit’, costing USD $1,199. The second is the ‘Nreal Light Enterprise Edition’, which costs USD $1,999. Both kits include the same items, however the Enterprise Edition also comes with a “1 year service plan”. The company doesn’t go into detail as to what this service plan covers though. Nreal is also providing a prescription lens set, which contains 15 pairs of lenses with a range of diopters for nearsighted users.
Included in each Developer Kit are the following:
- Nreal Light Glasses X 1
- Nreal Light Computing Unit X 1
- Nreal Light Controller X 1
- Corrective Lens Frames X 1
- The Clip X 1
- Nose Pads X 3
- USB-C Cable X 1
- Charger X 1
- Nreal Light Glasses Cleaning Cloth X 1
- User Guide X 1
The Nreal Light mixed reality glasses weigh just 88g and feature a 1080p display that offers a 52° Field of View (FoV), along with spatial computing capabilities such as SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), six degrees of freedom (6DoF) tracking, plane detection, and image tracking. The glasses are connected via a USB-C connection to an external computing unit that weighs 170 grams and runs on Android using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. Users control their spatial interactions with a single controller that offers 3DoF, and includes a touchpad and haptic feedback.
Nreal has also released an accompanying SDK for Unity, which is currently in Beta version and is available for developers to migrate existing or create new applications that can be run on Nreal Light.
