PTC Launches Vuforia Engine 11 with New Enterprise AR Features

In Augmented Reality News

February 20, 2025 – PTC, a provider of enterprise software for the industrial and manufacturing industries, has this week announced the release of Vuforia Engine 11, the latest version of its Vuforia augmented reality (AR) software development kit (SDK).

The update introduces an all-new Enterprise plan alongside several advanced features designed to improve object tracking, spatial navigation, and cloud-based AR experiences for large-scale deployments.

The Enterprise plan offers access to Vuforia’s most advanced technologies, with on-premises deployment options and unlimited target generation. Among the key additions are ‘On-Prem Advanced Model Targets.’

Model targets are 3D objects or shapes that an AR application recognizes and uses to anchor virtual content. Unlike traditional image targets, which are flat 2D surfaces like posters or QR codes, model targets are three-dimensional objects (such as a car, a machine, or a product) that an AR system can identify based on their geometry.

The addition of On-Prem Advanced Model Targets in Vuforia Engine 11 will allow developers to generate model-based tracking targets locally without cloud training. These targets can then be recognized from any angle while keeping sensitive CAD data on-site, according to the company.

Another notable feature is On-Prem Step Check, an AI-powered tool for verifying procedural steps. This system visually confirms whether a task has been completed correctly, again without requiring cloud connectivity.

The Vuforia Engine team also stated that State-Based Model Targets have moved out of beta, enabling developers to track objects through multiple stages of assembly or service.

State-Based Model Targets in Vuforia Engine 11 allow objects to be tracked as they are assembled or disassembled.

To support large-scale navigation and AR experiences, the platform’s new Cloud Area Targets feature allows users to process, store, and stream spatial data from the cloud. This eliminates the need for local storage, making it easier to deploy AR content across thousands of devices while navigating large spaces.

In a post announcing the launch, Zsolt Szalavari, Senior Director Software Development at PTC, commented: “This new generation of our best in class AR platform is packed with features to support both industrial enterprises with high security requirements planning to boost manufacturing with AR guidance and AI quality checks, as well as any developer to deploy global AR campaigns for indoor environments.”
