July 25, 2024 – Shader, a technology platform that merges augmented reality (AR) and AI for more immersive video calls, streams, and video content creation, has today announced the launch of Shader Playground, a real-time AI effects creation platform.
Shader’s platform helps to simplify complex visual creation for non-technical users who are looking to build more immersive experiences for video calls, streaming and video content. Prioritizing the user experience, the company’s technology helps to tackle the complex challenge of maintaining character consistency while preserving the subtle features and micro gestures that capture an individual’s unique essence.
With a team experienced in building social products for companies such as Snapchat and Meta, as well as gaming and XR projects for Blizzard and WANNABY, Shader aims to make AR creation accessible to everyone. With the company’s AI creation tools, users can generate filters, VFX, and lenses using intuitive text and voice prompts through the Shader platform, which is available on iOS and web.
“We’re diving deep into user behavior and seeing that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are all about new communication formats with digital avatars. People are really excited about the ability to create in real-time, just with their phone cameras. And it motivates us to take the next steps and explore how our tech can be even more social, how we could build our own communication platform with the ability to create AI-powered filters, effects, backgrounds, and masks in real-time,” said Darya Sesitskaya, co-founder and CEO of Shader.
With Shader Playground (which the company also refers to as its ‘WEB Playground Platform’) users can reimagine camera experiences and video scenes in specific styles or create digital personalities that mimic their expressions in real-time using short prompts.
Shader stated that it is advancing cross-platform products with generative AI and augmented reality in an effort to reshape digital interaction and self-expression. According to Shader, the launch of its WEB Playground Platform marks a significant step towards what the company refers to as its “Shader Social Scenographic vision,” which sees video calls seamlessly blended with AR features.
“Shader’s recent tech advancements are paving the way for a groundbreaking platform that will redefine immersive experiences. As co-founder and CTO, my aim is to build a strong engineering team and provide strategic leadership, leveraging over 12 years of industry experience,” said Greg Karlin, Shader’s recently appointed Co-Founder and CTO, and former Monetization Lead at Instagram.
Shader noted that it is also actively exploring the integration of its effects into video streaming platforms like Discord and Twitch and is inviting beta testers to start using its AR Creator SDK.
