October 28, 2021 – Today at Facebook’s Connect event, the company’s annual augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) conference, Facebook has announced that the Rockstar Games classic ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ is in development for the Oculus Quest 2 VR device.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, this new version of the game will offer players an entirely new way to experience the game world in virtual reality, giving them an entirely new perspective on in-game locations such as Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas.
The company also noted that it has been working for years to bring the game to Quest. Other than that, details were fairly slim in the Connect announcement, but this is certainly part of Facebook’s wider ambitions to become a metaverse company.
As VR gaming continues to grow, Facebook stated that it is investing heavily in building a healthy ecosystem for both developers and players—for the long term. With respect to gaming and its relation to the metaverse, the company stated that it can “see the seeds of what will one day become the metaverse,” and that it is excited to help build that along with users.
More details on the game’s announcement will surely follow in the near future. For more information on Facebook’s Connect event, click here.
