In Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality News
October 2, 2024 – DPVR, a Shanghai-based provider of virtual reality (VR) hardware and software solutions, has announced the launch of the P1 Pro Cam, its latest standalone mixed reality (MR) headset designed to enhance educational experiences.
DPVR noted that with many educational institutions actively exploring the use of VR to address diverse learning needs and evolving classroom requirements, there is also a growing need to assist these institutions with the integration of VR/MR devices into their educational processes and to help address issues such as limitations with display quality, control options, and storage capabilities.
Positioned as a means of allowing educational institutions to easily integrate mixed reality into their curricula, the P1 Pro Cam comes equipped with a 13MP camera, allowing the device to overlay digital information onto real-world visuals. According to DPVR, by enabling educators to enhance physical objects with digital content, the P1 Pro Cam’s seamless MR integration can help to make abstract concepts more tangible to students and create learning moments that are interactive, memorable, and, most importantly, educational.
The device features a 4K Ultra HD display that offers a 100 degree field of view (FoV) for providing deeper immersion to students. From history lessons where students can explore ancient ruins to conducting virtual science experiments in mixed reality, DPVR stated that the P1 Pro Cam can provide clear visuals that help to create more detailed interactive educational experiences and foster a deeper understanding of complex subjects.
Other features of the P1 Pro Cam include a 4,000 mAh battery that provides an extended battery life of around 4 hours, according to DPVR, reducing the need for frequent recharging in between uses. The headset also features an ergonomic design built for all-day usage and uninterrupted learning sessions.
When it comes to device management, the P1 Pro Cam offers interface options that include both a touchpad and wireless controller, allowing educators to adapt to different teaching styles and classroom setups and tailor different MR experiences to suit various educational activities.
Furthermore, DPVR offers an optional ‘Protection Cleanbox’ service that is designed to enhance the P1 Pro Cam’s usability and maintenance. The service includes a complete solution for maintaining the headset and ensuring that multiple devices can be easily stored, sanitized and charged in between uses.
“DPVR remains dedicated to developing innovative XR solutions that shape the future of education,” said Derek Liu, Chief Operations Officer at DPVR. “The P1 Pro Cam sets a new standard in EdTech and marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of virtual learning tools. It is about creating an educational ecosystem where students and teachers can interact, explore, learn, and create in ways previously unimaginable. Through our commitment to quality and immersive experiences, DPVR will continue to push the boundaries of what MR can achieve in educational scenarios.”
DPVR added that with the P1 Pro Cam being an education-focused headset, it is mainly targeting system integrators with the device, which will have an MSRP of USD$398, as well as options for hardware customization.
