March 17, 2025 – GameDriver, a provider of automated testing solutions for gaming, immersive, and spatial computing experiences, has today announced the release of GameDriver Test Assistant (TA) as part of its latest 2025.01 update. GameDriver stated that the all-new standalone tool marks a “significant advancement” in enabling testers and developers to create and maintain tests independently of Unity or Unreal Engine editors.
According to the company, traditionally, automated videogame and XR development testing has been tied to the engine development environment, requiring teams to have Unity or Unreal expertise to build and maintain tests effectively. The GameDriver TA removes this dependency, providing a fully standalone solution that empowers testers and QA teams to develop and debug tests and inspect application behavior with ease, regardless of their familiarity with game engines.
Key Features of GameDriver Test Assistant:
- Standalone Testing Environment – Run and maintain automated tests independently of Unity or Unreal, reducing reliance on engine access and additional licensing costs.
- Code Editor with Smart Features – Write and modify test scripts with built-in code completion and inline API documentation.
- Engine-Independent Debugging – Troubleshoot builds on mobile, consoles, or XR headsets without needing access to the game engine editor or source code, making log retrieval and issue resolution more efficient.
- Object Explorer & HierarchyPath Debugger – Navigate object trees, inspect properties in real-time, and validate test logic with ease.
- Log & Connection Management – View logs directly within TA and connect directly to target devices for on-the-fly debugging.
- Recorder – Capture test steps and automatically generate test code (replay functionality coming soon).
“With the launch of Test Assistant, we’re lowering the barrier to entry for games and XR testers,” said Shane Evans, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at GameDriver. “By making automated testing more accessible, we’re empowering teams to improve game quality without requiring deep game engine expertise.”
GameDriver noted that more updates and enhanced capabilities for its Test Assistant tool are planned for release throughout 2025.
Alongside the TA release, GameDriver has introduced a more transparent pricing model, which the company said will make it more straightforward for customers to find the right plan. GameDriver is now free for solo developers and educators, with a 14-day free trial also available for businesses and development studios to evaluate the platform’s full capabilities. Starter plans begin at USD $150 per month for small teams, with support for mobile, XR, and console testing, while GameDriver’s enterprise solutions offer scalable options for larger studios and organizations.
GameDriver will be showcasing its Test Assistant tool, along with other recent updates to its automated testing platform at GDC 2025 in San Francisco from March 18-22 (Booth #S1068). The company will be exhibiting alongside industry partner Kobiton, who will demonstrate their mobile device farm and testing platform for development and QA.
Developers and testers can sign up for a free trial of GameDriver 2025.01, explore the new Test Assistant, and learn more about pricing options at GameDriver.io.
