April 21, 2025 – Looking Glass, a provider of light field display technology, has recently unveiled its latest three-dimensional display with the launch of the Looking Glass 27”.
The 27″ display is optimized for delivering immersive 3D experiences to groups simultaneously, all without the need for headsets, glasses, or other special hardware, according to Looking Glass. The company noted that it can even be powered directly off an iPad, delivering a roughly 35% system-level cost reduction over its predecessor.
With 5k resolution in a 1-inch-thick format, the Looking Glass 27” provides 16” of virtual depth and enables multi-user 3D experiences for applications in research, training, and live activations.
“This is a breakthrough moment for 3D,” said Shawn Frayne, CEO and Co-Founder of Looking Glass. “With the new 27-inch display, we’ve combined major hardware and software advances to cut system costs and dramatically reduce compute requirements. It’s never been easier for developers and enterprises to build, test, and then deploy applications for their audiences in 3D.”
Looking Glass 27” Features & Benefits:
- Projects 45 to 100 perspectives simultaneously to create seamless 3D within a 53° view cone, allowing multiple users to experience 3D together.
- 5k visual fidelity replicates depth, material characteristics, translucency, and lighting effects as they appear in the real world.
- 16” of virtual depth and optical improvements make content feel as if it’s actually there.
The device also supports development in Unity on PC with deployment to iPad, and integrates with WebXR and major 3D content pipelines, according to the company.
Looking Glass stated that brands, research labs, and other innovators have used its platform to build headset-free 3D experiences across a range of fields:
- Innovation labs and research centers: Used to visualize complex spatial concepts in areas such as engineering and biotech.
