Ready Player Me Launches New Consumer Avatar Platform ‘PlayerZero’

In General XR News

October 12, 2024 – Ready Player Me, an embeddable avatar creation platform for the metaverse that allows developers to deliver avatars to partner games and virtual experiences, has today announced PlayerZero, a new consumer avatar collectible platform.

According to Ready Player Me, PlayerZero offers an interoperable and fully customizable avatar system that empowers users to create their avatars, dress them up with items that they can own and collect, and maintain one consistent avatar identity across various virtual worlds and games.

The company stated that the entirely new platform is focused on the consumer-experience, as opposed to the more developer-focused Ready Player Me platform, which was first launched in 2020. However, similar to the developer platform, PlayerZero allows for the creation of unique avatars that reflect a user’s individuality.

From hairstyles and outfits to accessories and cosmetics, every aspect of an avatar can be customized with PlayerZero. Once designed, these avatars aren’t confined to a single virtual world—they can then travel with the user across a variety of games and experiences, creating a persistent identity wherever they go.

Building an avatar in PlayerZero

“PlayerZero is all about giving users control over who they are in the digital space,” said Timmu Tõke, CEO at PlayerZero. “Someone’s carefully curated identity and digital presence shouldn’t be confined to a single platform or walled garden. We’re bridging the gap between isolated ecosystems, allowing users to take their avatars—and everything that makes them unique—across multiple games and virtual worlds, ensuring their identity is truly theirs, no matter where they go.”

Ready Player Me noted that with Gen Z consumers spending more time online than any other generation and often represented by an avatar, buying digital collectibles for avatars has become as common as purchasing physical items. As such, a true avatar brand “must offer cross-platform compatibility,” according to the company, to ensure that users’ digital identities are not confined to a single ecosystem.

A key feature of PlayerZero is its integration of digital collectibles. Users can evolve and level up their avatars by collecting items such as clothing, accessories, and other one-of-a-kind personal traits. To celebrate the launch of the platform, PlayerZero has debuted its first NFT collection on OpenSea, the world’s largest web3 marketplace for NFTs and crypto collectibles. The company added that unlike many NFTs that sit passively in digital wallets, its newly minted NFTs, which feature reimagined streetwear items for avatars, can be used immediately in the PlayerZero avatar editor, related games, and online communities.

Ready Player Me stated that as the PlayerZero platform evolves, future updates will bring a range of digital collectibles built alongside established brands and creators, giving users opportunities to further enhance their avatars and unlock new achievements. The company’s upcoming roadmap also includes exclusive partnerships with gaming and fashion brands to help ensure that PlayerZero “remains at the forefront of digital identity in the metaverse.”
